auditions! May 2nd @ 1PM and May 3rd @ 2pm

General Information

This show is all about having FUN, providing a quality experience for those that come to the show, and having a great time with the audience. The members of the production team have been part of some of the most memorable and successful shows here at The Glenn Massay Theater and we plan on making that happen with this show. If it would help, bring a friend (or two!) – our experience shows that it's always easier if you have a friend to audition with you. And, family groups are always encouraged! We love to see brother/sister, husband/wife, parent/child, etc. at auditions – How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a family show so nothing says that better than having family members in it! Every effort will be made to make your audition as enjoyable and as painless as possible.

Those planning on auditioning should arrive a few minutes prior to the start time to allow for the complete/review of paper work and to receive group assignments.

Music/Vocal

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a musical. Because of that, it requires that we have solo-quality vocalists in the lead roles as well as chorus members that have voices that can blend with one another. If you are auditioning for a lead role, it is OK (but not required) to sing a selection from the show. Auditioners should prepare a solo piece of between 30 to 60 seconds – it can be as simple as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” or something else of your choice. If you would like, you may bring a backtrack to audition with (a Bluetooth speaker will be available). A pianist will also be available for those with sheet music. Just come have some FUN! You may also be asked to sing a cappella and will spend a couple of minutes with our vocal director to determine your vocal range. Vocal auditions will be single-person without an audience or other participants present.

Choreography

We can’t all dance like Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers (if you don’t know who they are, YouTube them!) however, this is a musical that has choreography so be prepared to spend a little time with our choreographer so we can see if you have two left feet or not. Nothing difficult, but wearing comfortable clothing and shoes would be a good idea. If you can tap dance or have some experience with jazz choreography, that is a plus but not required. The choreography portion of the auditions will be done in groups.

Acting

You’ll be asked to participate in some engaging activities. Come prepared for a 45 second opportunity to share a story, a joke, a poem, an interesting anecdote or some dirt on your best friend or sibling – your choice, just make it interesting, original, and short. You’ll also be asked to do some improvisation and/or a pantomime on a given subject. These informal activities are a lot of fun and are often the highlight of the day! Again, the emphasis is on having FUN! This portion of the audition will be also be done in groups.

Come join the FUN!

This will be a FUN audition….make up your mind NOW that you are going to have fun and enjoy the time spent with all of us!
